10-step project planning guide
Recommended 10 stages for a successful pod-building project
There is no ‘one best way’ to approach a pod-building project from the start. The best approach for you is likely one of the first four stages. You might do all of the stages, or skip some of the earlier stages – it depends on how far your ideas have progressed before switching to a pod-based building concept, for example. Read through the typical recommended stages, described below, and decide what would work best as the starting point for your situation.
The 10 steps
Being a DIY builder
DIY BUILDING EXPLAINED
Perhaps you have previous building experience and the right tools, and your project is exempt (non-habitable) development. If so, you can get your design plans or architectural drawings done (or do your own), order your flatpack steel building kit, and start getting your site ready for construction. Watch the video for a DIY builder’s review.
Being an owner-builder
PROJECT SELF-MANAGEMENT EXPLAINED
If your project will need approval sorted, the architects in our network can help with the necessary documentation, starting with preliminary project advice and/or the architectural drawings. They can also explain how to approach your project by getting your owner-builder permit and engaging your trades.
Everything done for you
TURNKEY CONSTRUCTION EXPLAINED
If you’ve got the budget to have the approval process managed for you, and construction done completely for you so that your pod project is ‘move-in ready’ within the shortest possible time, then engage an architect or similar for approvals, and ask a licensed builder to quote on your turnkey construction. You can do it all independently or rely on our network partners for easy professional assistance.
